Background info: I fell away from reading comics when I got into high school, and I was slowly lured back in through my local library. I found some X-Men and Superman and Batman books, and I enjoyed them as nostalgic reading. Then the librarian (a total Warren Ellis and Alan Moore junky) put “Watchmen” in my hands, and I found a whole new level of what comics could be. Since then, I’ve become an avid reader and a fan of any comics writer or artist willing to try something new. As a writer, I look for those areas where I can try to push the medium with stories that have not been told on the comic book page before.
Why did you start writing comics?: I’ve always been consumed with telling stories in any format that I could. I’ve written songs, prose, and screenplays, but I feel like comics “fit” best. I enjoy the collaboration, and I adore the medium. I’m excited to continue to see how the medium can grow as more people try things outside of the superhero genre.

Interesting fact: I used to be in a band called 22Element. On the periodic chart, the 22nd element is titanium, which is the metal that keeps my clavicle in one piece. I was in a pretty crazy mountain biking accident and wanted to pay homage to my recklessness and to serve as a good reminder not to do stupid stuff.
